Shaker Style Kitchens: timeless elegance for your kitchen

If you're dreaming of a kitchen that exudes classic charm with a modern twist, you're likely considering a Shaker style kitchen. This timeless style had enduring appeal and an iconic design.

What makes a Shaker Kitchen?

Shaker kitchens are defined by their simplicity, functionality, and craftsmanship. Originating from the Shaker religious community (an offshoot from the Quakers) these kitchens were designed with practicality in mind, prioritising clean lines and uncluttered spaces.

They are characterised by several features:

5 panel doors: The hallmark of a Shaker kitchen is the five-piece door, featuring a central flat panel surrounded by a frame. This creates a distinctive, understated elegance.

Simplicity: Ornate details are eschewed in favour of clean lines and uncluttered surfaces. This minimalist approach creates a sense of calm and order.

Functionality: Shaker kitchens are designed to be practical and efficient. Clever storage solutions and well-planned layouts maximise space and usability.

High-quality materials: Traditionally crafted from solid wood, Shaker kitchens are built to last. At Cub, we use only the finest solid and hardwoods ensuring your kitchen stands the test of time.

Versatility: While rooted in tradition, Shaker kitchens are incredibly versatile. They can be adapted to suit both contemporary and traditional homes, and can be customised with a variety of colours, finishes, and hardware.

Our Shaker style kitchens

Materials: At Cub we make all our bespoke kitchens from a solid wood of your choice such as oak, ash or tulipwood or a hardwood like birch ply.

If you’re looking for a classic painted finish for your Shaker style kitchen we suggest using tulipwood as this produces a better paint finish. Or, exhibit the natural beauty of the wood and opt for ash with a natural oil finish. Whatever the finish you choose, know that your kitchen is made of the finest quality materials, with no mdf or melamine covered chipboard in sight.

Bespoke design: Choosing a bespoke kitchen means you're not limited by standard sizes or designs. At Cub we work alongside you to design, plan and maximise your kitchen's potential all within our unique pricing structure. Read more about our pricing here.

From custom cabinetry and bespoke storage solutions, we can incorporate unique features that reflect your personal style all within your fixed price.

Modern Twists on a Classic Design:

While the classic Shaker look remains popular, we’re frequently asked how it can be given a modern twist. Consider:

Colour Choices: While traditional Shaker kitchens often feature natural wood finishes or muted colours, today's kitchens embrace a wider palette. From bold blues and greens to sophisticated greys and whites, the possibilities are endless. For more colour inspiration have a look at our inspiration boards.

Hardware: Choose handles and knobs that complement your chosen colour scheme and add a touch of personality. Sleek, minimalist handles can create a contemporary feel, while traditional cup pulls evoke a more classic look.

Worktops: Pair your Shaker cabinets with modern worktop materials like quartz or concrete for a striking contrast. Alternatively, opt for classic materials like wood or marble for a more traditional aesthetic.

Integrated Appliances: Seamlessly integrate modern appliances for a clean and streamlined look. Hidden utility cupboards, integrated fridge-freezer and microwave all help to create an uncluttered design.
