Into the Woods - A Scandinavian-Style Kitchen Designed and Made in Sussex
Wood is taking over as the must-have kitchen trend for 2025, bringing warmth, texture and timeless appeal to modern homes. Inspired by the effortlessly cool yet cosy aesthetic of Scandinavian kitchens, more and more people are putting down the paintbrush and embracing the natural beauty of wood.
This timber clad extension had a very Scandinavian feel despite being in the middle of the Sussex countryside. Light-filled with a contemporary oak veneered kitchen, white walls and wide wooden floorboards.
A wood kitchen isn’t just about style - it’s built to last. Here, the owners chose oak veneer, a perfect blend of beauty and durability. The premium birch ply core offers exceptional strength, stability and moisture resistance, whilst the real oak veneer brings natural warmth and a rich grain pattern.
Many worry that a wooden kitchen might feel too rustic, but these oak slab cabinet doors create a sleek and modern look. Each one grain-matched to perfection and finished with a simple metal pull handle. The addition of ebonised oak plinths was a smart choice, creating a striking contrast between the wooden floors and cupboards, pushing the design firmly towards contemporary.
Pull-out bin to the left, sink in the middle and dishwasher to the right - a classic set-up you’ll see time and time again.
A simple L-shaped run tucks away appliances and pull-out bins, keeping everything neat and uncluttered. In the centre, a spacious island invites casual gatherings. One side with plenty of space to pull up a stool and the other with deep drawers for extra storage.
Opening up the back of your home is a sensible choice, especially when you have a lovely big garden. One kitchen living space, perfect for cooking and socialising, and look at that view! This oak window seat may have been our favourite spot in the whole kitchen. With plenty of open and closed storage to keep things tidy and a shaggy throw completing the chic Scandi aesthetic. It’s the perfect spot to sit with a cup of tea and soak in all the beauty, inside and out.
Even in the depths of winter, this place was stunning. Originally the grounds of an orchard, the garden was filled with a fascinating mix of fruit trees and shrubbery, perfectly framed by expansive picture windows.
